A new year to volunteer!

Hello all, as we all know 2009 was a turbulent year, but it was also an amazing one for gay rights! We saw the passing of the hate crimes bill into law, and saw many states pass gay marriage into law. Although, gay marriage in many states has the reliability of a box of tangled Christmas lights, sometimes it works and stays lit and sometimes there’s that one bulb that won’t light up, knocks the rest out, and you have to start all over again and try to find it to get it working again! As progress keeps being made and GLBT issues are coming to the forefront of the public consciousness, now is a wonderful time to make your voice heard in the thousands that are speaking up on behalf of our community. Remember these wonderful things don’t just happen; it takes the work of millions of us and our allies to come to fruition. We at Spectrum are starting an initiative that will rely on the amazing and resourceful minds of our beloved community. We want to know what is important to you.  Spectrum of Rockford GLBTQ is introducing our:

 Volunteer Committee Program

We will be asking people all over our community what GLBT causes they feel they can be a part of. Even if you are busy, this can be done on your own time, but with the help of others in the community. Do you have a GLBT cause or group that is important to you in the area? Would you like to do something for them as well as the community? Well here’s your chance to do something! Whether it be safe sex, gay marriage, or helping in support groups. Please email or send us your idea and what your plan of action might be.  Out of the many applicants we will be selecting as many as we can to coordinate and help carry out these wonderful ideas and projects! Volunteering is a great way to meet people in the community, build respect for the GLBTQ cause, and get yourself heard! So what are you waiting for?! We look forward from hearing from you all!
